.....Sorry - I just spent a few minutes in Ann's Fantasy Land of Complete Happiness. I'm back now.
I was an early, fast and voracious reader. I would only ask for new books for Christmas and birthdays and kept them neatly organized in my bookcase. All my Nancy Drew books were organized by number and I want so badly to own all of them. By the way, does anyone know if Nancy and Ned made out yet? I kept waiting. I loved Judy Blume books (Deenie got me and my friends through Jr. High), Anne of Green Gables (yes, I read it because of her name - even though she spelled it wrong - and fell in love with the series), the Little House books, Donna Parker books and tons of others.
The picture above was actually from my nightstand. After the picture I got a little scared they might topple over onto the cat so I put them away. I would miss the cat. I have had some of those books for years and have read a bunch of them many times. I have a smaller, less dangerous stack of new books sitting on my nightstand now, so I am still happy. I know I should save money and just check them out at the library but it's like this weird gravitational pull when I see books at any store. I just can't help it!
My most favorite kind of books are "chick lit". You know, books about a newly-single woman reconnecting with her free-spirit younger sister who left home for college and never came back and her misunderstood and overly responsible older sister who needs time away from her family that takes her for granted. Just the three girls reconnect one hot summer at the family beach-front cottage after a favorite Great Aunt dies and orders in her will that the girls spend the summer together or the cottage will be sold. So the newly single woman spends some time getting to know and appreciate her sisters again as well as the gorgeous mechanic in town who happened to be the little boy she fished with every summer and he turned into a major hottie while the wayward sister's boyfriend comes to find her because he just can't live without her. You know, THAT kind of book. By the way, that book description isn't a real book. I just made it all up. I like books that have gardening, cooking, the beach, weddings, and the interaction of women and girls in them. All of that doesn't have to happen in the same book, but that is a great idea. :) I do occasionally like mixing it up with a good murder-mystery every now and then.
You know how I was in charge of the family baking? Well, as much as I loved it, I was still a tween/teen with books to read and boys to discuss with girlfriends. Sometimes I would have a new book to read or maybe my girlfriends were riding bikes to the lake, but because I liked having cookies in my lunches I would get creative*. (*Lazy). So, my "creative" recipe for cookies would mean making some frosting, putting it in between two graham crackers and throwing them in the freezer. Everyone loved them - but I could only get away with my "creativity" every once in awhile.
So, if you find yourself with a new book that you just can't put down but feel the need for treats and don't particularly want to bake, the following "recipe" is for you. Enjoy! :)
Frosting Sandwich Cookies
1 can frosting (I prefer chocolate but any flavor will do)
Graham Crackers broken in half
Spread frosting on half the cracker. Top with the other half of the cracker. Continue until the crackers or frosting is gone (normally the frosting is gone first at my house because I eat a big spoonfuls of it while I'm frosting the crackers). Eat or freeze. They freeze and thaw well and are quite delish frozen.
Happy reading!
